Youth Football Coach Fired For This?!?

From The Daily Mail:

A Connecticut youth football coach said he was fired for punishing a boy who bullied a teammate with a few laps around the field. The board of the Durham Middlefield Falcons fired Todd Kennedy on Monday from his voluntary role, WTNH-TV reported.

“They said, ‘Well, why did you feel you were qualified to handle this bullying incident? I’m like, ‘Well, because I’m a father,” Kennedy said. Kennedy, whose two sons played on the team, said the boy denied he had bullied the other member of the squad for children in grades 4 through 6.

Yet the coach had spoken to the whole team the first time he heard about the boy’s actions at school, and he ordered the boy to take some laps last week after hearing about him acting out again.

The boy ran his laps without complaining, Kennedy told the TV station. Yet the youth football and cheerleading board in the the area northeast of New Haven suspended Kennedy then voted unanimously to fire him on Monday. “What I’m going to miss the most is seeing what we would have done this year, you know, seeing if we would have gotten to the championship game,” Kennedy said.

Representatives for the Falcons didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment Thursday afternoon.
