Because of her own experience eating alone at lunch that she said led to bullying, 16-year-old Natalie Hampton wanted to do something to help others like her. The California teen created an app call “Sit With Us.” It lets kids label themselves as “ambassadors”, which signals other students that it’s safe to sit with them. According to the Los Angeles Daily News , “it provides a way for isolated students to join lunch groups anonymously.”
Natalie told the publication that she spent her entire 7th grade year eating by herself. She said this led to terrible bullying because she was seen as vulnerable. Now a high school junior, she does not want others to experience the same thing. “Some are crying for help,” said Natalie, “I want to use social media, which can be harmful, and use it for a change and to do something good.”
