The Inside Outside Guys ~ Winter is Coming

DETROIT, November 16, 2023 ~ As much as we don’t like to think about it, winter is coming and it’s time to prepare.

Here are a few of the emails we have responded to recently to help homeowners get through the cold months ahead.

Margaret from Canton says her walkway slabs are slightly tilted and collect water, making it necessary to constantly apply rock salt to prevent slips and injuries. She can’t afford to replace the concrete and is looking for suggestions. Our answer? Concrete slabs that have started to settle unevenly only get worse when the wet ground freezes underneath them.

All ground-supported concrete must not only drain surface water but should slope away from the house to prevent water from creating pressure against the basement and foundation walls. A less expensive option than replacing the concrete is concrete leveling.
