WDVD At Home News – Dry Winter Skin Tips

Take Care of Your Dry Winter Skin

The cold blast of winter is here! It’s difficult on our homes, our pets, our cars, and on our dry skin. To beat some of the harsh winter weather has on our bodies; try some of these helpful tips from around the web.

1. Use a cool mist humidifier in your bedroom. It will keep the air in the room and your skin hydrated. A cool mist humidifier will make the room slightly cooler, but studies show people sleep better in cooler environments, but if you are chilly add another blanket or a pair of socks.
2. Keep your showers warm and not too hot. The higher temps can dry out and irritate already chapped skin.
3. Put on moisturizer right after your shower. Before you completely dry off, use lotion that contains glycerin and sorbitol to lock in moisture. If you can’t tell you put a moisturizer on minutes later, it is probably not doing enough to help your skin.
4. Make sure you are using facial lotion with at least an SPF 15. The rays from the sun are still strong in the winter. No matter the temperature outside make sure to protect yourself from skin cancer.
5. Drink plenty of water. Experts recommend drinking more water than you normally do to help replenish your dry skin.
6. Don’t wear wool or other scratchy materials. Stick to cotton or other softer fabrics which is gentler on the skin.
